모든 운동경기는 정확한 규칙과 심판의 판단으로 이루어진다. 운동선수는 승리를 위해 규칙을 지키고, 열정과 노력을 쏟은 후 은퇴를 한다.이런 운동선수가 경기에서 승리하거나 패배할 때의 과정은 마치 우리의 인생과 닮았다.은퇴를 하기까지 주어진 업무의 규칙을 지키는 것에만 열중했기 때문이다. 하지만 작품 속 비치발리볼, 탁구, 테니스 경기에서는 우리가 알고 있는 규칙을 따를 필요가 없다. 모래에서 발레를 하고 있거나 라인 밖으로 공이 떨어져도 점수를 얻는다. 심지어 심판은 레드카드 대신 그린카드를 꺼낸다. 때로는 공격과 방어를 해야 되고, 공이 한 번이라도 아웃되어 실패하더라도 다시 도전하는, 드라마틱한 오늘을 우리는 “this is life” 라고 부른다.
