'수영장 이야기'
아주 추운 겨울부터 수영장을 그리기 시작했다.
영하의 날씨로 몸도 마음도 얼어갈 즈음, 몇 년 전에 다녀온 발리여행 사진을 뒤적이고 있었다.
아마도 얼어가는 마음을 녹여줄 기억의 난로가 필요했나보다.
오래된 호텔의 넓디넓은 수영장엔 관광객이 서너 명 밖에 없었고 그래서인지 한가롭고 고즈넉한 분위기가 정말 마음에 들었었다.
열대 나무와 꽃들이 오래전부터 그 자리를 지키고 있었다는 듯이 안정감 있게 피어있고 나의 피곤한 등을 눕힐 수 있는 비치의자가 넉넉하게 줄을 서있던 아주 오래된 호텔의 너그러움이 그 어떤 초호화 리조트의 럭셔리한 시설보다 훨씬 더 나를 내려놓게 했다.
이러한 느낌으로 그리기 시작한 수영장풍경은 더없이 한가롭고 나른하게 그려졌다.
수영장풍경 속에는 가족들이 함께 노는 모습이나, 각자 쉬는 모습이 무심한 듯 표현되어진다. 작품 속에서 엄마, 아빠는 바쁜 일상에서 벗어나 편안하고 여유로운 모습으로 그려지고 아이들의 모습은 아직 순수하고 부끄럽고 수줍어서 마음을 온전히 표현하지 못하는 소년과 소녀로 표현된다. 소년과 소녀가 등장하는 수영장그림에는 이야기가 흐르고 있다. 알면서도 모르는 척하고, 모르는 척 하지만 이미 알고 있는 상태의 풋풋한 감정이 그림 속에서 스토리가 되어 오고 간다.
가족 그리고 소년과 소녀의 수영장그림이 보는 이로 하여금 과거의 시간 속 자신으로 되돌아가 순수했던 시절의 자신과 만나게 하여 스르르 미소 짓게 하는 매개채가 되길 바래본다.
현실의 일상이 아무리 고되고 불안하여도 우리의 마음속엔 자신을 위로해줄 추억의 테라피가 있음을 나와 같은 그들에게 속삭여주고 싶다.
I have started to draw pools since very cold winter.
When the temperature made my body and mind freezing, all of a sudden I started to find a photo album of travel to Bali, several years ago. Probably I needed a heater named a memory to melt my frozen heart.
There were a wide pool in an old hotel with a few tourists. It was so quite and peaceful and I liked the atmosphere of the place.
There were also some tropical trees in a line with sense of stability and flowers in full bloom calmly. I felt much more comfortable than any luxurious hotels or resorts
when I lied down on a beach chair.
Having such a feeling, my memories of pool was painted restfully and leisurely
The painting of the pool describes unwittingly all the family playing each other or enjoying their own time. In the work, mom and dad are rid of busy life and having rest freely. Children in that family are also described as still pure and shy boy and girl who hesitate to express their mind. The painting of pool is not only a painting but it also has a story. The boy and girl are already aware of each other, but they are pretending not to know. We may read fresh and bashful emotions between the boy and girl in the painting of the pool.
I wish my pictures of family and 'the boy and girl' will be used as an intermediation which leads people to their innocent adolescence and makes them find the inside of themselves.
Although life sometimes seems tough and unrest, I want to whisper people who are just like me that there are always a consolable therapy for us.
