간혹 자연물을 관찰할 때 작은 패턴이 여러 개가 모여서 하나의 큰 물체를 이루고 있는 것 같은 모습들을 볼 수 있었다. 작은 잎사귀 여러 개가 모여 커다란 나무를 형성하고 그것들이 모여 큰 숲이 되고 산이 되는 모양을 예로 들 수 있다. 나는 이러한 작은 패턴들의 모임이나 그 안에서 무언가 살아 움직이는 것 들을 보면서 우리가 몸담고 있는 사회구조와 유사하다고 느꼈다. 지구에서 멀리 떨어진 곳에서 인간들이 살아가는 모습을 보면 내가 이러한 자연물들을 관찰하는 것과 동일한 구조의 모양새를 이룰 것이다. 이는 인간은 태어나면서부터 자연의 일부로서 생성과 소멸을 거듭하는 자연의 섭리 속에서 살아가야하기 때문이다. 다른 여느 자연물들과도 마찬가지로 인간도 자연법칙에 의해 움직이는 존재이며, 인간도 결국에는 자연과 순화하려는 본성을 가지고 있다. 이러한 생각들은 동양철학자들의 꾸밈없이 자연의 순리에 따르는 삶의 철학(무위자연)과 일치하는 부분이 있다고 본다. 이를 기반으로 나의 작업에서는 인간 본연의 모습을 보여주기 위해 아무것도 걸치지 않은 발가벗은 인간의 형태를 자연과 함께 하나가 되는 풍경으로 담으려고 하였다. 풍경안의 인간들은 의미가 없는 행동을 하는 것처럼 보일 수 있으나, 이것은 자연법칙에 따라 최선의 노력을 하고 있는 창조된 자연물로서 보여주고자 하는 것이다. 본인이 이러한 주제를 가지고 작업을 시작하게 된 이유는 오늘을 살고 있는 현대인들의 모습 때문이었다. 오늘의 사회는 개인의 인권과 자유가 더욱 보장되어지고 있고 점차 현대인들은 자아에 대한 성찰이나 성취에 대해 더욱 큰 필요성을 느끼게 되어가고 있다. 이에 따라 이기주의적이고 개인주의적인 성향을 가진 사람들이 늘어가고 사회는 점점 경쟁적인 구도로 변모되어 가고 있는 것 같다. 그렇기 때문에 본인은 작업을 통해서 복잡한 사회를 잠시 벗어나 자연과 순화하려는 인간의 본성을 보여주려 한다. We sometimes see a huge form of something, collected by a pattern of several smaller substances.  That a group of small leaves form a tree, a group of trees form a forest, and a bunch of forest forms a mountain can be a good example.  As I personally see these patterns, I have found it something in common with our society.  If I examine the structure of our society away from the earth, I believe I would probably see quite the similar structure of the natural substances.  As a part of nature, it is inevitable that humans are born on the first day of lives and eventually die in the end.  In other words, same as other living creatures, humans follow the law of nature and thus have instincts to make adjustment to their environment. Such a phenomenon appears very similar with some Asian philosophy that focuses on a plain nature.  Based on it, my works reveal naked forms of human to show their true nature as a part of the earth.  On the picture, they might be seen as acting without any meaning or thoughts; however, abiding the law of nature, they are actually doing their best to show who they are as a small part of their environment.   
The main reason for me to choose this theme may be based on what I see toward the people today.  Nowadays many people seem to enjoy personal right and freedom. Furthermore, more people get caught up with their own reflection or accomplishment.  I believe it as a result tends to lead people to be more selfish and individualistic and increases the level of competition.  Therefore, I have intended to show the real nature of humans, hopefully temporarily to keep audiences away from our modern society and appreciate my works.
